Workshop on
Advanced Pulsed Power Technologies

February 16th to 18th, 2026
Oxford Town Hall, Oxford, UK

The 2026 annual workshop of the ISP is about advanced pulsed power technologies and is intended to regularly provide the possibility of networking within the pulsed power community and to support the scientific / technical exchange between science, industry and students. The frame of the workshop shall provide a more intimate opportunity for social and technical interaction than a large conference. The workshop is accompanied by the annual member meeting of the ISP.

Registration

Registration can be done via the ticketing platform eventfrog. The registration fee of 170 € include the costs of the dinner, the coffee breaks, the lunch on day 1 and the transfer and return for the lab tour. ISP members only pay a reduced fee of 130 €. Furthermore, the workshop can be booked with or without the dinner. Make sure to select the correct ticket. The regular registration is opened until February 6, 2026. Unfortunately, the number of participants is limited. Therefore we recommend prompt registration. A processing fee of 8 % of the ticket price is substracted from the registration fee in case of a cancellation.

The deadline for submitting your talk is 31 December 2025. We expect talks to be about 15–20 minutes long, depending on the number of speakers. Poster presentations are possible. For more information, please contact the organisers.

Regular registration is open until February 6, 2026.

Lab tour

Don't miss this unique opportunity to visit one of the research centres listed below. Please note that you can only choose one option. You can state your preference during registration or via email to the organisers. Attention: the number of places for each visit is limited, and they will be allocated to participants on a "first come, first served" basis.

ISIS Neutron and Muon Source

ISIS Neutron and Muon Source is based at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire and is a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences. It is owned and operated by the Science and Technology Facilities Council, one of the councils that forms UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). ISIS Neutron and Muon Source produces beams of neutrons and muons that allow scientists to study materials at the atomic level using a suite of instruments, often described as ‘super-microscopes’, each of which is individually optimised for the study of different types of matter. Neutron and muon experiments are non-destructive and provide results that cannot be achieved by other techniques. The facility supports a national and international community of more than 2000 scientists who use neutrons and muons for research in physics, chemistry, materials science, geology, engineering, and biology.

Tokamak Energy

Founded in 2009 as a spin-out from the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Tokamak Energy is based in Oxfordshire, with subsidiaries in the US and Japan. The company has designed, built, and operate two of the world’s most advanced fusion devices: ST40, the highest magnetic field spherical tokamak, and Demo4, a world-first HTS fusion magnet system. These platforms are driving the development and commercialisation of cutting-edge fusion and HTS technologies and expertise.

First Light Fusion

First Light Fusion, the UK's only inertial fusion company, is pioneering novel approaches to IFE target design that seek to simplify the engineering for practical fusion power. Using simulation, data science, and machine leaming, the 80-strong team of scientists, physicists, and engineers is charting a pathway to affordable, scalable power plants. Founded in 2011 as an Oxford (UK) spin-out, First Light Fusion is now a commercially focused organisation transforming energy’s future.

Travel information

The most convenient airport for Oxford is London Heathrow (LHR), about 80 km away. From Heathrow, the Oxford Bus Company’s “Airline” coach runs directly to Oxford city centre every 30–60 minutes, taking around 90 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a train from London Paddington (reachable via the Heathrow Express in 15 minutes), which brings you to Oxford in just under an hour. If you prefer to drive, Oxford is easily reached by car: from Heathrow, take the M40 motorway towards Birmingham and exit at Junction 8 or 9 for Oxford. The drive takes about 60–90 minutes depending on traffic. Be aware that parking in the city centre is limited – it’s often easier to use one of the Park & Ride facilities around Oxford. Other options include London Gatwick (LGW) with a direct coach to Oxford (around 2 hours), or Birmingham Airport (BHX), which connects by train (about 1.5 hours). Once in Oxford, the city is very walkable, but there are also local buses and plenty of bicycle rentals.

Sponsorship

We would like to offer the opportunity to become a sponsor of the workshop. Although the core event has been funded, there is still scope to support the event. To recognise your contribution, we will gladly provide opportunities to raise your company's profile within the pulsed power community in Europe and the UK. Options include a presentation slot, an exhibition booth or distributing flyers. If you are interested in an exhibition, we can arrange standard trestle tables in a configuration that suits you (standard tables are approx. 6ft x 2.5ft). There will be space for backboards displaying posters, as well as mains power. The only stipulation is that nothing is pinned to the walls, as they are traditional timber-panelled rooms. To keep things simple, we offer one sponsorship package priced at €495. Please note that attendees must register separately for the workshop. If you are interested in sponsorship, please contact us.
